"Apparently" he is playing this year, according to someone I was conversing with on the Drowned In Sound boards who has an advance of the press release.

Official announcement on lineup to follow at 5:30pm, according to Virtual Festivals.

Nobody yes, as I said originally Virtual Festivals are saying that an announcement re: lineup will happen around 5:30pm today. Tickets go on sale on Friday morning so there's bound to be an annoucement sometime this week.

I doubt he will. I imagine James will be a fair bit earlier on.

Amanda
27-02-2006, 17:33
I really do wish I could be more excited but why does he have to go and do festivals - its like £110 for day tickets before you even think about postage and booking fees and theres the risk of sunburn (I'm possibly still just sulking about the lack of Nicky-ness so please ignore me) But could we not just have a non festival based thing and save about £40 a night?

RA-D

I don't expect he'll be on either of the main stages though, a high spot in a 'tent' (JJB arena) is more likely though. He's down as confirmed now on efestivals' listings.

Amanda

Is it easy enough to get to by train?

Chelmsford pretty simple as its only about half an hour out of London, and then theres a bus to the festival site - as long as you're ok travelling in the day its fine.

Stafford is pretty simple as well as most trains go through there, or so it seems - it probably depends where you coming from etc how simple either is - the only problem is getting between the two overnight/on sunday morning can be tricky as almost every journey on sunday gets ruined by rail replacement bus services or so it seems these days. Bad memories of that from 2002.

I think you can get cheap trains with your ticket as well goes its virgin, but then you'd be on virgin trains which is always a worry.

I'm sure either should be fine though.

To whoever said they got tickets the other day - how, where? as the webiste says they don't go on sale till friday - although I don't suppose its much help without knowing which day he's playing.

(i was never here, OK!)

ring 087 0143 2203 for the presale line, i don't know if there'll be any left. It says you need a registered Virgin mobile number but they don't actually ask for it (i bought a £1.50 sim on ebay just in case)

i'm sorry, i have no idea. NME is reporting that Radiohead are doing Sunday Weston Park and Morrisey is doing Saturday. Beck will be doing Sunday and Kasabian will be too by that logic, I suspect Keane will be Saturday.

Obviously, reverse those for the southern event.

No idea when JDB'll be playing though if that's all you wanted.

Hmm, I guess if it was it'd say on the one earth website - I am far more likely to trust that than ticketmaster - who sent me maps of the venue the week the gig was supposed to be and reminded me not to forget to go, despite the fact it had been cancelled for weeks! I hope it isn't that long though thats forever to wait and its been far too long already anyway.

Best thing that could happen:

1) James plays V saturday

2) Thom Yorke passes the stage where James is playing

3) Thom stops and watches

4) Yorkie goes "Wow, he's amazing! lets take him on tour!"

5) James tours with Radiohead. The fans like him.

6) James becomes massive.

7) James recruits new members Nicholas Jones and Sean Moore for his backup band.

Ok Sam, you don't drink Virgin cola as I've been there in 99 and 2002 and I never once had any cola, also we wont be drinking at all as otherwise we'd need the loo and instead we just have to stand around waiting - actually looking on the bright side - he'll probably play middle of the afternoon so we'll only have to hang around half the day and then we can sit in a field and not drink cola and eat chips of something.

Also I don't think day tickets sell out as fast - although I'm still concerned it might be a long time till we know which day he's playing as sometimes they only split the major acts initially to incentivize day ticket people - is he classed as a major act? I dunno.

I thought of something else you can worry about though- what if we get tickets for both the James days and then Nicky announces he's playing the other one! this will not happen though as he couldn't sing a whole set and hates festivals and it just wont.

I hope James wont play manics songs it would be a bit cheesy and cabaret.

BUT I still appear to be the only person more concerned about the fact the one earth thing might not be till new year!!!! Nice as James is thats the manics and therefore FAR more important in my world. I was hoping for a summer thing

To be fair, although he's an established act - he's known as the singer of the manics. As a solo artist, there is no evidence that he'd be a crowd puller. Hence the tiny mention on the bill

The solution is to get there early and get to the front- then you get to watch any other decent bands on that day. :)

I see your point UEF, if you have the commitment you can get to the front.

We were going to go the V festival anyway, so this is a nice bonus! I don't think I will queue, as I'm a crap fan, and want to spend time with my husband and friends (not to bnot that I dont consider the lovely people I'vemet in the queues before, but you get what I mean) while I'm there. It may better for people wanting the be down the front, if he was on early on one of the larger stages, rater than late in a small tent. all though the smaller stages are normally better, you would get to see a bit more for your money that way, and have a real day out or weekend away. :X

Got staffs tickets through the presale yesterday. Soooooo glad I don't have to go through all of the stress again on friday of trying to get any tickets. Normally at festivals end up going round all the smaller stages to see bands, and sometimes ones on the main stage earlier on. Then, when the headline bands are playin I just have a wnder round soaking up the atmosphere. This line up is amazing though! I with Louise about Faithless. I wasn't bothered about them untill I saw them at T in the Park a few years back and they were awsome! Im dead excited now, and have started looking at new tents and considering different hats:cool:

go_buzz_baby
01-03-2006, 13:08
Im not sure what’s happened to me though its mostly the line-up that’s been announced that I don’t like and part of it is because im either scared of the bands or i've seen them before and they were dull, or partly its just me illogical fear of something (like virgin cola its not right you know im not happy about going)

And I also seem to have got old and grumpy some when between dec 04 and april 05 I use to love going to festivals I went to 3 in 2004 and at least 2 a year between 98 and 2003

And I do like lots of music, but mostly is old punk stuff and 90’s Britpop I also like manics related bands – the glc, super furrys, rilo kiley (although I don’t feel the need
to see rush or whitesnake ever)

although I have recently only been listing to my nicky wire sings cd (ie BOTBKN, watsvil blues, dying breads and IKTZG) yes I know I cant spell and yes I know its not normal

RADIOHEAD – weren’t very exciting last time I saw them
MORRISSEY - I loved Morrissey but he looks like my grandpa – very scary to see your grandpa on stage singing Morrissey songs
FAITHLESS –wasn’t over keen but only saw half there set,
Beck, - oh I liked beck before! didn’t realise he was playing will go see him if I can
Kasabian, - reminds me of a not so good primal scream
Paul Weller, - pictures of him scare me now does he still play jam songs? I liked the jam
Keane,- don’t really enjoy before
Bloc Party, - nooo
Fatboy Slim, -scared of him but I like zoe ball
Groove Armada, - scared again
The Charlatans, - were dull at IOW
The Magic Numbers, - scared
Editors, - no
The Ordinary Boys, - my sister loves them music’s ok, but didn’t like Preston in big brother
Starsailor, - no nonnonononono (really didn’t enjoy before)
James Dean Bradfield, yay
The Go! Team, scared of them too
Sugababes, -no
Orson & The Feeling –never heard of them

Great that theres some developement on the James solo front! I haven't decided whether I am going to get a day ticket for Stafford yet.

I was listening to it today, but I would really love it if he played the song 'Lopez' that the Manics did with 808 State. But it all depends on what direction he is going in, and whether he will be playing solo acoustic or with a band. I just think its a beautiful song and would sound nice live.

Well, isn't that usually for big name acts, I don't know if James would qualify?

Certainly the headliners and big bands would probably have exclusivity, but little bands can often play lots of headliners.

Maybe he'll have a style makeover and buy a new tshirt for his solo stuff - be good if he was in his "thin" phase too ;)

and Rel --- glad you got sorted for stafford - see you for an icecream? :D

sorry, i may have been a bit distressed by the amount of effort it all took - I had to spend 15 minutes in a queue, it was quite unsettling.

But yay for people I know going!!!

Oow, can we do some unneccessary bitching at some point Katie, I'm sure I miss sitting in a queue doing that?

Everyone will have to go to the lengths of dressing up in a formal black shirt for this one, and then James will probably turn up on stage in a leopardskin skirt with 'you know' stencilled on in pink, look at the audience and go 'fuck...'.

Hmm, I'd laugh if nicky came on stage instead, maybe the crowd would go "fuck".

I had a Chelmsford day ticket for the Sunday all lined up on my pc this morning, and then I decided to flag it! Have a made a tragic mistake? I figured (after adding it all up - ticket, booking fee and postage) that for the same price I could probably see James at two solo gigs, rather than hanging about for hours paying over the odds for food and drink and getting tired and fractious at V. I figure if I HAVE made a tragic mistake I can get a ticket off e-bay closer to the time.

I very much doubt that will happen, people will shout but i would expect james on the second stage mid afternoon time 3/4/5 area. becasue to be fair unless he has something out by then his crowd is going to be pure manics fans (which there are lesser and lesser of nowdays)

I wouldn't be so sure - I went to a gig last night with a friend on mine, and a group of guys that I didn't know before the evening, and when I mentioned I was a Manics fan, they all started talking about how JDB was playing V and how they wanted to go and see him and how good the Manics were. Which made me very happy.

the second stage will be packed with loads of people watching! I doubt they will all piss off as soon as James appears and the chances are he'll be sandwiched between two bigger acts

If it's a mixture between Radiohead and Morrissey fans it should make for a very laid back festival. I reckon Weller will reel in a few fans aswell, he's got quite a fan base.

they're not too bad really - I used to be a real toilet phobic but the V ones aren't too bad as long as you go to one that's not too near the men's urinals - they really smell. I usally take loo roll and that gel stuff you can put on your hands to clean them, but at V they provide this as well.

There's a lot of litter, I hate that bit, but the whole experience is so brilliant it's worth putting up with ;)

Probably end up on the bill for Wireless as well - that's basically the same as V anyway, but for those whose "high flying" city careers won't let them venture outside of the M25 unless it's for a "wine & dine" with clients.
