I'll study to become a engineer (some sort of, can't be bothered to find my dictionary) and a teacher in math/computer science.

first year of five (or I'll start my second this autumn)

at Kungliga tekniska högskolan (maybe should translate that... hmm.. royal institute of technology), Stockholm

I started a BSc in biochemistry at the University of Birmingham in 1998, and graduated in 2001.

I went on to study for an MPhil in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the same, and graduated in 2002.

I'm now coming towards the end of the first year of my PhD studying protein folding by kinetics. That's a grand total of 7 years at uni (when I finish...), plus I can take a year to write my thesis.

For my next trick I'll try to get a proper job...:p

pfft, a)you're not stupid and b)even if you were stupid, which you're not :P , it's not that hard to get into uni these days, if you could see some of the people in my uni:rolleyes:

well, ok, the main reason I never went was because I was very ill at college and only completed one A-level. Also because all the talk of universities intimidated me, I went to one of the top colleges (obviously excluding very posh, poncey ones) and it all seemed push-push-push and you were practically starting a degree before you started your A-levels :( Well, maybe I'll go one day as a mature student. Don't know what to do though.

very true. Wasn't there a case of someone doing an English paper [cant remember at what level]. They got an A, although a short page was littered with mistakes. Don't remember anything else though.

Meh, anyway...

Hehe, I wish ;) I dunno what made you think that, other than that it used to be an all-female college (first in the country actually), but it ceased to be like that many years ago. If theres any one defining group at RH its probably students from the Far East, theres loads of them :)
My friend has just finished studying media arts at Goldsmith, hes doing an MA in photography there this year...don't spose you know him, James Weaver? Or his band, the Showboys? They played in your union a few times.

Well if everything goes to plan (i.e getting ABB in A Levels) then its Manchester Uni to do English and American Literature in September.

If everything doesn't go to plan then suicide seems the likeliest option :(

I'm probably gonna study History and Philosophy and the University of Reading next year.

But if that won't work I'll study History and Philosophy in Amsterdam.

Yeah- I would definitely recommend doing politics at Sheffield. The department itself is I think one of the top ones in the country and has maximum grading for teaching and research. The staff there are really organised and friendly, I mention this because my boyfriend did English Literature and was really frustrated at the incompetence and aloofness of the dept. The lecturers are really helpfuln and I had a really good time. In my last term I had the max of two hours a week!

I think it depends on what aspect of politics you're interested in. I would recommend going on the website and checking out the range of modules available. I was a bit frustrated at the lack of international relations stuff but I think they've added a couple now. Typical.

Sheffield itself is just a great place to study in. It literally has everything a student could want.

My only reservation would be the library. We have such a crap library where there are only one copy of books for a hundred students etc. I have never come across anyone in my time at Sheffield, student or lecturer who has a good word to say about it. I think that we are in the top 10/15 universities in the country but are ranked 49th when it comes to the adequacy of the library.

Saying that, I've managed to do a degree despite it and hopefully (fingers crossed) i shall get a 2:1.

Hehe, it is a pretty shit place. Everyone I knew hated it. Academically its alright as theres fuck all to do so you have to concentrate on your studies, but unless you're a Pimms quaffing, Merc-driving Tory you feel a bit out of place..
What were you studying btw? Did you ever go to the rocksoc in the first year? I might have seen you :)
