*sorry about the original one in the wrong area*
I was wondering what proper phobias people had.
Mine is thunder storms.
I hate the way they make me feel inside. At night when they light up your room even when the light is on! Also those thunderball things (not lottery) that come into your room and cause fires..it was in a docu. So i have to quickly shut all the windows daft eh?
I hate those automatic car washes. I refuse to sit in a car that's going through one.
I was proved right last week .....

Yeah. But at least their car was clean :)
If it had been my car, it would have needed new seat covers ....:o

I'm actually really scared of throwing up. I get all in a panic when I'm think I'm going to and start thinking about how horrible it feels.
my whole body shuts down when i'm about to throw up..it's madness...
http://www.phobialist.com should show you if you have any phobias and what the names are for them...i kinda have agoraphobic tendancies, not so much now but it was pretty intense a bout 2 years ago...still have times when i'm pretty bad but i'm getting over it:)
i completely paranoid about burglars too...aparantly that's "Scelerophibia- Fear of bad men, burglars"...dunno, i have a few doubts about some on that list:confused:

My sister is phobic about throwing up too... she had a bad nameless illness when she was a teenager and now she doesn't drink heavily or eat weird combinations in case she's sick... I imagine it's very good for your health. She hasn't been sick for over ten years. All very well, but if you can help it, don't get like that, because being sick is your body's way of rejecting poison. What if you ate something bad that your mind won't let you reject? I know my sis would be in a state.
I'm not truly phobic about anything, though I have to be very stern with myself about getting on the tube. What annoys me is the confusion of phobias with fears - I always understood phobias as really debilitating, utterly irrational fears and hatreds. I mean, the word 'capers' always gives me the shivers, and I still have to hold the nurse's hand for an injection, but I would never say I was phobic.
Oh and I love thunderstorms! We had great one last night! poor lbn.
I love thunderstorms too :D

Add me to the I love thunderstorms list please, we had a great one too.
I think people confuse phobias with fears too but anyway mine is the Channel Tunnel, I would never go through it without the aid of alcohol or drugs, the thought of all that water pressing down on the tunnel *shudders*

Phobias I have many stupid ones but the most serios ones I have are eyes. They make me feel physically sick and I have a panic attack and stuff. It's horrible. I just can't bear them.
Also have other fears which are failing people, ageing and guns, or any kind of violence

I know it sounds trivial, but Im scared of the drains and gutters at the bottom of swimming pools. :o
I dont know why, and I dont know if Its a phobia or a fear, but I know that the drain isnt going to swallow me up, or anything like that.
I dont even mind touching a drain with my toes, as long as Ive got my eyes shut. The water makes the drain look so much bigger and as if its moving.
It sometimes happens with the plughole in the bathtub, at home.
How silly is that! :o

I'm scared of spiders and falling. I don't mind tiny spiders (unlike certain people who practically scream at em ;) ) but big ones really really scare me. *can't look at em without feeling ill*

and its not exactly a phobia...more something i cant stand...
sellotape on the ends of my fingers. it REALLY freaks me out. my oldest brother (whos 10years older than me and LOTS bigger) decided it would fun to cover my hands in sellotape (iv had the hate for it since i can remember) and i ended up having a panic attack!
i know i know.but im not weird....im gifted!!!!!
honest.......;) :p :)
I'm scared of elevators and other places like that. Claustrophobia , i think.... very irritative when there are only elevators and no stairs.
When I was little I was terrified of escalators, partly because I fell over on one and grazed all my inside leg and partly because of the thought of falling. It wasn't a phobia, just a fear that you grow out of...

I think the best thing to do then would be to avoid having an operation on your penis :p Don't believe the dodgy emails about penis enlargement for $80! (I'd love to know why I keep getting sent those  )
I have a phobia of making eye contact with people, i really cant do it. People always think i'm being rude, when i'm really not trying to be rude. I can make eye contact with people i've known for years and i know really well, but i can hardly with anyone else. :(

I wouldn't call it a phobia but I also have that, I find it physically impossible to look into the eyes of a stranger. Like as if I subconsciously believe I don't have the right, i'm intruding into that person's space.

That's not an irrational fear, that's common sense!:p
The lift thing scares me. I've had a couple of nightmares of being na lift and it stops, and the ceiling started squeezing down on me... it was actually the pillow which had lodged above my head.
I MAKE myself get on the tube and the eurostar though, I think if you are scared-but-still-functioning you've got to put yourself through it, otherwise you'll end up encouraging it.

AAAAHHHH!!! It worries me that if I have kids they may want to go to the circus - I blame stephen king and poltergeist.
I used to be really phobic about spiders but this has got better as I've got older- I even managed to pick one up the other day (ok so it was only about 1.5 cm across but therapy starts in small steps!).
I'm now getting a bit claustrophobic though - we ended up down this ancient underground tunnel in Greece last year, and the entrance was so minute I spent the entire time wondering how we would all get out if there was an emergency. I panicked a bit when the metro train I got on yesterday in Manchester was so full I spent the entire time pressed against the door, but managed to calm down by wondering about the setlist at Move- got all excited when I passed through old trafford.

moths. even typing or saying the word and i can feel bile rising in my throat. i fucking hate them so much i cant describe. i hate their powdery wings and their fat disgusting bodies and their feelers and the way they fly so erratically and beat their wings so fast. i am generally scared of flies, butterflies, daddy long legs (all flying insects really) etc but moths make my legs give way if i am alone with one.
im also scared of deep water, heights, silence, ticking clocks and any kind of endlessly repeating pattern.

I used to be *exactly* like that as a child. I'm much less paranoid now but I still get panicky if I think I'm going to throw up. Haven't thrown up for 20 years now. It's quite a relief to find there's other people who have the same phobia, as I've always been quite ashamed of it. I could never talk about it in 'real' life.

I had a phobia of death which was seriously annoying. It terrifies me. As a result I'm a hypochondriac - I'm always afraid that I'm coming down with a deadly disease which has in the past made me depressed. It started when I was 9/10 when the headmaster started talking about all the deadly bleach bottles etc in the kitchen that you could easily swallow and die from. It was mixed in with OCD as well as I would have to go through in my head what happened when I went to the bathroom to make sure I hadn't swallowed anything. Kinda stupid:o Had to have counselling for it and eveything. Am still paranoid and neurotic but has stopped taking over my life. Thank God!!
