I was born in 1985, probably a pretty bad year. The best thing that happened was 'Back To The Future' getting released, one of my favourite films. Musically it seems to have been not fantastic, I think 'Careless Whisper' or something was the biggest song. And the horrible post-Mick Jones 'Cut The Crap' Clash were still touring and polluting the memory, so that wasn't great either. I don't think any really great albums came out that year.
Ooh!!! I was born in 1985 too! Can't say i've found anything interesting about it! Guess you could say that the Miner's Strike ended (cue thoughts of 15-year-olds going back to school....[an old joke from my History class ]) OH DEAR!!!

I was born in 1982. Off the top of my head, that's the same year as Prince William (heh, *very* off the top of my head, that!), and the No. 1 on the day I was born was Dexy's Midnight Runners' Come On Eileen. More facts when I remember them (dodgy post-midnight brain at the mo :))

You know when you're starting to get older when someone says the year they were born and you think 'Shit, I remember what I was doing that year and you didn't even exist'.. :( I was in Benidorm in 1987 and I remember it very clearly..
1983.
CD's are first released.
Micheal Jackson's 'Thriller', The Police's 'Every Breath You Take' (which also happened to be the number 1 on my birthday...) oh and some shit about Australia winning the America's Cup (this was apparantly a big event...)
1986.
> I was born
> Centenery of Statue of Liberty [wow  ]
Can't think of any albums released off the top of my head.

;) ;)
1988, the year that graham chapman died :(
Ireland beat England in the European Championships
Ben Johnson was disqualified after winning the 100m Olympic gold medal
Wimbledon beat Liverpool in the greatest FA Cup Final shock of all time
(thanks to gar for those :))
Carley Capital Group, attempting to make the Carolina Theatre more modern and appealing and to fit better with CityFair, removes all the seats, railings, equipment, and decorations in an attempt to build a restaurant and combination bar and disco. In the middle of the year, for their own purposes, they demolished the lobby and office and retail space after declaring it themselves to be unsound. The lobby was never found to be lacking structurally. Later in the year, Carley Capital Group, citing financial problems, stops all work.
(thanks to B for that one :))

Well 1984.

The Soviets boycott the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles

On the day of my birthday, neil kinnock resigned (albeit not in 1984).

I remember that day clearly. I was frantically trying to get in touch with friends in the South East, and relatives in the South West to see if everyone was OK. It was pretty windy in Bolton the day after the hurricane, and I was a lot slimmer than I am now. I had to grab onto a lamp post at one point to avoid being blown away.

I remember that hurricane well. We (me and my mum) sat up all night cos we so scared. My dad was a night shift worker then. It was really severe here. The New Forest has never recovered.
I remember the school shed had blown off, the trees had fallen and windows had been smashed.
The following night we had a school disco :o Jive Bunny was the 'thing' then  I'm feeling old

Interestingly my dad has given me the newspaper from the day after I was born (therefore containing the events from my birth day itself) and it was all panic in India about the Gandhi death and the consequences.
Also Liverpool won the European Cup that year which must have pleased my mum. Pity I grew up following Man Utd like my dad...

I can just about remember that happening and seeing it on the news, and when I see the footage of Challenger exploding now it takes me back to that day.
Ditto. I don't think I really understood it at the time, but it still seemed odd.
Oh, I was born in 1980. Which I believe was when we sold arms to Bin Laden to help him protect Afghanistan's anarchy from the Russians. And Lennon was shot.
The Police were #1 when I was born. Don't Stand So Close To Me. Fitting, really.

Challenger Space Shuttle explodes killing 7 astronauts.
Chernobyl Accident (first nuclear disaster) in Soviet Union.
i remember those SO clearly. i remember my mum and brother and i gathered around the telly to watch the news which had live footage of the challenger take off. and i remember us all watching, live, as it blew up and just being speechless. i think one of us asked mum whether it had really done that. it was just awful.
chernobyl i remember really clearly on the news, and them saying that sheep in scotland were affected by the fallout. also, my cousin was being an au pair in northern germany just after it happened and her host family were adamant that she shouldn't eat any fruit from their fruit bowl and she thought they were being stingy, so ate it anyway. she has 3 kids, one with no arm, one with severe lung difficulties and a third with almost total deafness and blindess. it's highly likely that it was the fruit that did for her. it's very sad.
most of the events i remember clearly from the 80s were tragic. i guess because they had more coverage than the nice things.

Motown Junk released!
And the collapse of the Soviet Union. Sonic The Hedgehog was created.
Graham Greene died on the day i was born.

 My god! I didn't know that! Not that I would have done, but you know what I mean.
How's the Deafblind kid doing? Which school does it go to, or is it mainstreamed?

I remember Chernobyl all too well*shudders* Also Challenger but it was Chernobyl that made the biggest impression on me. It's 20 years since it happened and they still haven't done a shit about the reactor:rolleyes: I remember the German news and my mum being a bit worried about milk etc. Luckily Denmark didn't get hit by the 'Chernobyl Cloud'
But we had Windscale fire before Chernobyl in 1957. It was pretty bad but nothing compared to Chernobyl. Three Mile Island could have gone horribly wrong. But hey, Windscale/Sellafield has made loads of shite after 1957:rolleyes:

It was quite pretty even if it was in April and the weather were shitty. Also the bus was the most fucked up one i've been in! Sellafield was quite interesting to see. I even didn't attack the person who showed us around. He was quite honest about it and I know they would try to avoid answering the questions anyway. The had a great buffy though even if we didn't want to know where they got the shrimps from;)
But the funniest thing was when a bloke from my class taped his face with gaffa tape! He regret it so much when he had to take it off. He didn't have much eyebrow left!!
