why not change the default listings of threads to be from the begining? at the moment it is only showing threads posted (or threads that have been posted in, im not sure) in the last 30 days. that could get very confusing after the forum has been alive for more than 30 days (im being optomistic there...). im sure there is an option in the admin pannel where you can set that as default without each user changing it individually

Noted, I'll see what can be done.

IMO the forums are busy enough for the default to be 30 days which will perhaps allow things to run a bit easier

Plus its not as if things get deleted after the 30 days as the older topics can still be searched and contributed to and users can change the default themselves

btw good choice picking vbulletin :)

I agree with that Jack and we'll see what we can do. I used to post on a forum where all threads got deleted after 30 days and that was rather confusing.

i was actually thinking about setting one up today on the only free host that supports php and mysql that i know of and then i got an email saying that ALL pages are going to have a frame advertising google on the side. ill have a look to see if using PHP gets around it (lycos dont put embeded adverts on php pages)

I'm with you dude.... There seem to be too many icons... how many times can you make a message read and unread?

Glad you like that one - I made it from scratch :)

Right, forum icons... There is a legend at the bottom of each forum telling you what they mean, but I'll do a quick explanation here too:

http://forum.foreverdelayed.org.uk/images/fdp/newfolder.gif - New post(s) in the thread
http://forum.foreverdelayed.org.uk/images/fdp/newhotfolder.gif - New post(s) in the thread, and the thread's had more than 40 replies or 150 views
http://forum.foreverdelayed.org.uk/images/fdp/folder.gif - No new posts
http://forum.foreverdelayed.org.uk/images/fdp/hotfolder.gif - No new posts, and the thread's had more than 40 replies or 150 views
http://forum.foreverdelayed.org.uk/images/fdp/lockfolder.gif - Closed thread

If the icon has a dot in the middle, it simply means it's a thread you've participated in.

aww thanks for the explanation :D im so silly i didnt notice it at the bottom  tis just once i've read a thread it still says there are new posts until i log out&in again:confused:

anyway thanks again for changing things &the new smilies are cute

what do the dots mean? Is it that you have posted in the thread. As in you meaning me, as in me being myself....

wibble! :o

T'anks for splaining the others, i never seem to get to the very bottom of a page!

here (http://members.lycos.co.uk/neonbarbedwire/forum/index.php) is my forum. it took me about an 2 hours to set up and those 2 hours included watching big brother, lycos being VERY slow and the uploading not working for a bit. there is a problem with anything to do with emailing (it complains when you sign up but just ignore that) but i am pretty sure that is to do with the free server i am using. the other option is using an SMTP server and the email server i use isnt working for that.
i have not got a custom skin because i do not claim to be any good at anything like that, and if i could really be bothered i could install another ready made skin, and i will do that eventually.

that is about an hours work and about another hours tweaking. quite a bit less than 3 weeks...

Yet it's 5 days since you said you could do it, why haven't you done it quicker?

because i couldnt be arsed, and had no real reason to do so. if i was in charge of an up and running forum with users getting pissed off with it not being around i could (and most definately would) have done it earlier. but seeing as though my only need to do it was to show you that i could do it in 2 hours then i thought it could wait for a bit.
and the email problem is a well known problem and i am working to fix it.

How convenient.

And the evidence that it took two hours is where?

Do you not think if you were trying to prove the three weeks ridiculous, you would have had the forum up within 2 hours of this coming back?

because to be honest i couldnt be arsed. my only real need to do it was to proove that it didnt take 3 weeks to create a new forum. and maybe i am lying (which i am not, but maybe you dont believe me) 5 days is a hell of a lot shorter time than 3 weeks.

What exactly are you trying to prove anyway.
That it could be done quicker?
Well I knew that to.
And I also knew that we would be back, and now we are, I don't care.

i was saying that it is unacceptable for a foum to be down for 3 weeks when they were just getting this board up. if there were other reasons then if we were told about them then fair enough. but we havent been told about them.

and it was other people here (i think Lover of Outrage was one of them) who was encouraging me to do it. you cant please everybody it seems

Why is it fucking unacceptable?
Maybe they did have better things to do.
And why on earth do they have to answer to you?
If they wanted to tell us, then then would.

You can't please everybody, but you weren't trying to please anybody, so don't try and make out you are now being hard done by.
